Words of welcome

 Dear Inquirer,

Our school, Imre Thököly Primary School, in this town is one of the schools with great past and strong traditions, has changed recently. These strong traditions have been completed with new energy, innovative and pointing forward thinking, resoluteness and with activity make possible to put into practice great number of results. Our teaching staff, the workers of our school do the best to make our school more pleasant, to establish an atmosphere of intimacy, where students in a nice surround can study and be active. We promise such conditions where the substance of knowledge is acquaired playfully and successfully. We know that our main task is to form the more effective basic skills, to prepare our students for their continuated education. It is possible because of the high-level erudition of our colleagues. We pay extreme attention for foreign languages, Computer Science and of course P.E. especially for swimming. Our successful work is proved by the results of different competitions. There are lots of programmes for spending the free time, for excursions, organizing open-air schools where everyone can spend a good and useful time.

We want our students to be children for a long time, to spend their time at school in safeness, to acquire more knowledge among good conditions.

Our school situated not far from the center of the town, in a housing estate, in a quiet surround. There are 16 classes where pupils are taught, 2 pupil groups are in each year with the average number of 20 - 26 pupils. In the senior section there are lessons in the afternoon, if some need these lessons, to help pupils to go on with the school material.

We start to form the basic skills with traditional, syllabic reading in a slow rhythm to prepare the comprehensible reading. Teaching of Maths is going on from the Hajdu - Maths books from the 1st to 8th year.

English and German languages are taught from the 3 – 8th year, about 5 foreign lessons a week have pupils from the 5th year (English or German), and we offer pupils in the 1st and 2nd classes playfull lessons in foreign languages like “preliminary” lessons.

The Science Computer lessons are taught from the 3rd year and in the 7 – 8th classes pupils have more lessons from this subject to enlarge their knowledge they work with wordprocessor for example. Swimming is taught from the 1 – 5th class once a week.

The results of the general competitions between schools show the talent of over pupils and a successful work which goes on in our school on the territory of education. There are prominent individual and group results on Ilona Zrínyi Maths competition; five prizes were given to pupils who took part in a Kazinczy “nice pronounciation” competition, nice results were achieved by pupils in reading, Science Computer, foreign languages, History, Music and Art competitions.

Sport is also famous among our pupils. Especially nice achievements are in swimming and playing football. Beside this basketball and athletics and water polo also show hopeful results. Our most important task is to introduce more kinds of sports to keep healthy, to keep fit everybody.

Our winter sports camps (skiing and skating) and the summer camps are very famous among the pupils, too.

Among our traditions is the apperance of the school newspaper. There is organized the so called “Thököly – week” every four year where we can see the programme of the life of our school. The candle – lighting on Advent, the Children’s Day, Welcoming the Winners – all these programmes strengthen that we belong together.

We will put up a worthy memory to our denominator. A bronze portrait of Thököly made by László Győri sculptor will be set in our assembly hall in January 2003. We will have our own school flag and a school – tie for all the pupils and the scool – staff.

We try to establish an atmosphere of intimacy for children together with parents.
